random rants and raves

I forgot Mike's chili parlor!!! Website-boo, never been there. Discovered it one day while running with Vicki, and the sign in the window said "Chili. Beer. Cash only." HOW can you NOT want to try that!?!? Then while stalking it online I discover it's been on Diner's Drive-ins and Dives.

A little background, my family loves chili. We ate it practically every day on our Yellowstone trip.

SLU pub crawl's yum-worthy food:

lunchbox laboratory - sweet potato fries and corn dogs! and Mar's syphilis lunchbox is there!

Mars bar - gnocchi with gorgonzola and bacon on a bed of spinach. I am fairly new to the world of gnocchi, but I think it might have been fresh!

omg I spell potatoe like Dan Quale. Are people sure it's not the British spelling? Like flavour?

Somehow, somewhere, some one procured Reese's Easter eggs at Paddy's. Does not go well with Irish Car Bomb.

Lessons in cooking:

Jamie Oliver's pizza dough recipe doesn't come with cooking directions. Just storage directions. Burnt/undercooked food doesn't make a healthy nation. At least put oven temp.

Good flavor combination: kale, mustard greens, spinach, and collards mix with marinara sauce and chili pepper.

Bad for the pizza:

marinara sauce (too liquidy - makes it harder for the pizza dough to cook in the middle)

Winging it when feeling inattentive and scatter brained.

To-do (mostly again)

Hello,

Cheeky: Kimchee mac, sweet potato tempura, balsamic mushrooms....

SeaTown: new T. Douglas restaurant. Seafood + snack. just give them all your $$.

Etta's: craving seafood in general, but I really have been wanting to try for bfast. also hand over all $$. hahaha. crabby hour.

Benihana. don't judge me. blame Ohio. let the salt preserve your body inside-out.

OH! and furniture advisor said there's a place where they do a thing with a whole chicken. I mean all of it. Not your average rotisserie. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalll of it.

Kingfish: cheesy grits, grilled catfish, collards, gumbo and mac and cheese!

Le Bon Ton Roule: I'll ettou-your-ffe. website - boo. food-yum.

who's coming and when?

< rant>Why is it that no body sells just steamed lobster? you know, with asparagus/green beans and wild rice. Little bit of butter to the side? Hell, don't even need the butter. How about some good lobster without all the saucy shit???? RUINS THE LOBSTER. . < /rant>

Good Chinese food would also help. Been eating with Bon--- and

number 1: she can eat. $40 tab at Mike's Noodle!!! mmm glutton for easter. din tai fung dumplings galore. ga.lore.

Number 2: she eats good chinese food with me!!! Even the stuff cousin doesn't quite like, but will help me eat anyway.

There's just no good Chinese food in the Pac NW. Richmond is O.K. periods were on purpose to add pause. You did it mentally. I know you did.

Smashley made home made chicken marsala. You lose. I win.

Trader Joe's chocolate lava cake and coffee ice cream!!!!

elk jerky + wasabi peas = DELICIOUS

Bailey's dad makes awesome jerky. It's the thicker kind like slim jim or o boy oberto. Boss had wasabi peas on her desk when I was eating jerky.... so... I combined. Reasons why it's good:
- mixed textures (like chips in your sandwich). chewy jerky + crunchy peas.
- spicy + meat.
- smokey + corn...y. I know it's peas, but you know what I'm saying.

Also! Mac & cheese with kale is my new favorite. I can't ever finish the whole batch in one sitting, so I don't like to use vegetables that can't reheat well (like the standard m&c combo go-to, brocoli). Lately my goal has been to add more kale each time, and use less noodle so it's more cheesy veggies rather than carb overload and guilted food coma. Also peas are just fun always and meat. Chicken absorbs good flavor and reheats decently.

The universe answered my request for banana cream pie in 2 days. What should I ask for next?!

Natto breath

No Diamond Knot. Instead we went to Mashiko's in West Seattle.

-Maguro natto (tuna and natto mixed up), made Dad try it. not a fan.
-Mackerel (saba) -> at first Dad asked for no mackerel, but the chef insisted he try it since it's not the pickled kind. Does that make it not saba? Anyway it was good.
- Shiso beer from Elliot Bay brewing (did I remember the name right?). tasted like. wheat.
- SEA SNAILS, YUM
- Limeade roll (tempura asparagus roll with salmon and limes on top)

I tried to take pictures, but it was too dark.

Ariko- I blame you for my natto breath. I would never have tried it (twice) if it weren't for you.

If you try it, you'll hate it the first time.

see? dark.

Dad's in town!

After birthday BBQ (pulled pork sliders, hamburgers, hot dogs, and home made ice cream!!) Dad came into town. I made snickerdoodle cupcakes (recipe Martha Stewart) to go with the ice cream.

We went to Cutters and got coconut curry clams. More like I coerced him into trying it.

Today we're going to dim sum with some friends. It'll be a new place, so we'll see if it's the next go-to. Breakfast was a bloody mary courtesy of Smashley. I think my dad is lost. He was supposed to pick me up by now. I need to remember to buy more Vietnamese Cinnamon from World Spice at Pike's Place. Also, tis the season to scope out pickled asparagus at Pike's. The grocery store kind just doesn't cut it. for bloody mary's.

Pike's place booty:

After dim sum we're going to the Tacoma Art Museum to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit. Then I'm pretty sure we're destined to go to the Diamond Knot Brewery. Raw steak on a 500 degree marble slab. I might want Leatherface's Revenge Quesadilla instead though. so good.

Happy Cheese Weasel Day!

Every year (it's possible it's a specific calendar day, but I'm pretty sure I'd remember if it'd be April 1st every year) - work has a "holiday." It is Cheese Weasel day, and everybody brings cheese. I can't take pictures at work, but yum. Featured this year: salmon cheese ball chili con queso hot cheese dip with bacon and I don't know, but it was delicious. Cougar gold cheese (the only good thing to come from WSU). I still feel guilty eating it. Pub cheese with horseradish apples spinach artichoke dip fresh baked bread tortilla chips pretzel sticks and apparently I missed others because I showed up late. I'm trying to convince HR to make it a company wide thing. Who doesn't like cheese? Even vegans have their own kind of cheese!
