Moon Festival - food fail cont.

So, I thought the moon festival was Sept. 14. Apparently it was the 12th. Either way didn't see the moon either days. I did eat moon cake! On Sept. 15th.

Sigh.

I think this was red bean with double yolk. I hate the yolk, but it's supposed to be a delicacy. Rich, delicious, and terrible for your cholesterol. Fresh baked from Maxim grocery in MD!

I need more synonyms for "delicious."

A day of food fail

Forgot it was snack day, but everyone else remembered:
- caramel brownies (home made caramel)
- Beecher's flagship cheese
- Appel farms gouda
- home made macaroons with chocolate chips
- sabra petso hummus with sea salt pita chips
- delicious fresh veggies

At lunch tried a burger place near work, and spilled burger juice on one of the nicest work shirts I own. (swiss mushroom burger!!! with sweet potato fries!)

Came home to eat some squeaky cheese from West Seattle adventures only to realize it has garlic, and I can't eat it. (it gives me massive heartburn).

But seriously, you should try the market fresh herb squeaky cheese from Beechers. Delicious.

Did you know QFC in West Seattle has the best samples ever? Whole cupcakes, fresh cooked STEAK, wine, cheese, cookies. I'm sure there was more. I did not pay attention to those.

24 hours of being uncomfortably full, and other such adventures

#1 It is the 10th anniversary. I hope you took to the time to appreciate what you've been able to have and those that are there to enjoy it with you.

Perhaps my blog of gluttony does not help, but I also wish we all made an effort to not do stupid things that make others hate us more. ( racial/religious/socioeconomic intolerance -> to me, does not seem like we've reduced this since then). Ok sorry, one more non-food rant.

#2 I hate that I have to download an application just to get files from my phone. Why can't I just access the files?

The benefits of having a smart phone so far seem negligible to the pain in the ass that it causes.

Anyways,

Went to the DC area to meet my nephew labor day weekend, and got to pit stop at my favorite place for Hong Kong style brunch: Full Key. The usual suspects include-

Sampan jook (add white pepper)

Beef and rice noodles (add hot sauce)

Sui Kau Noodles (add red vinegar)

On industrious days, I might get an order of shrimp egg rice thing to-go. This did not happen. Don't have a picture myself, you'll have to follow the link to see what I'm talking about. Steamed yum. (I don't know who that guy is. He had the prettiest image search result for my food).

Next stop, Husky Football season has commenced. Watched the first game with nephew via internet. He had his first dinner outing! I don't like to post pictures of people (my left thumb is the most you'll see on this blog). Let's just say, Chinese restaurant: crispy pork, duck, spicy battered seafood, kung pao chicken, and more. There was also Italian sandwiches that weekend. I still can't spell sandwiches properly. Just like tomato.

Did not purchase Utz crab chips. My hook up fell through, but I didn't know this until after I was out of Utz purchasing territory.

Game 2: After an afternoon of Manny's pitchers and hot wings, Marisa and I decide to celebrate a 2-0 season by walking around West Seattle until Mashiko's opens (sustainable sushi!!!). Insert in there garlic bread purchase and cupcake samples. And beer which I spilled all over my shirt.

We did a terrible job with the Delicious Indecision. Our bodies just can't process the gas in beer anymore. We had to request our non-raw items be boxed. :(

Spend rest of evening running around apartment sobering up/trying to work with the carbonation in the beer.

Next morning: brunch with Asians. I never see more leftovers than when I potluck with the people of my heritage. Even when you try to "bring hardly anything."

Left to right, top to bottom: Kona coffee, home made granola with greek yogurt/sliced fruit, crab and smoked salmon scramble with cilantro and caramelized onions, pumpkin-ricotta pancake.

1.5 helpings of the food pictured above. And I was still full from the day before/ burping up beer carbonation.

Fruit options: kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, nectarines, raspberries, blackberries . There was also the option for grade A maple syrup and honey.

Granola: pumpkin seeds, oats, coconut and deliciousness. They called this crack-granola, because you can't stop snacking on it..
There may or may not be a bag of granola in each person's purse. Oh yes, waffles were debated in lieu of pancakes.

fruit can also double as yummy additions to your brunch mimosa!

After much protesting at my inability to eat as much as I used to, a leisurely walk, and 7 hours of rest from food, I ate again.

Hi-life has chicken dinners every Sunday. Who doesn't like biscuits and gravy?

carrots in butter, mashed potatoes with gravy, biscuits with butter and honey, fried chicken with chalula.

I know, I should have used flash. I have the largest food baby ever.

Mae's Feast

Kevin likes empanadas, french toast, and apparently oatmeal.

Betty's meal: Tacos and spicy black beans ( I think they just added salsa)

Newest obsession: Egg's benedict: half original, half veggie!

I know I'm supposed to go to new places and cook new things, but I was on vacation! I miss some of the old stuff!

P.S. Dear, blogger. Your mobile settings suck, and your help section is terrible. I hate this feature.

Lemon Meringue Pie Day and Jello Cake

According to "Pie" Aug 15 is Lemon Meringue day. Guess what I did? Oh yea, and guess what else was there? Banana Cream loves me, and I love it too.

Cafeteria lady always makes things I've never had before. Like Jello cake. It is delicious in all it's bad-for-you-ness. Perfect Friday indulgence.

Step 1: bake a white cake.
Step 2: once it's cooled a little poke lines of holes in the top of the cake.
Step 3: mix 2 flavors of jello. Instead of 2 cups of cold water, all 4 cups should be hot.
Step 4: pour a flavor down a row of holes in your cake. Alternate flavors between rows.
Step 5: chill. then cool whip!

Pies and Pints - hand pie's competition?

Not really. Different thing. Beer, yes. soup, yes. Pie crusts were flakier, but I'm not sure that it was necessarily better than fremont pie place. But! they have a happy hour that's a decent price, cajun fries, and. AND!!! You can get your pie served in soup. There is also sauce to smother your pie in should you choose to purchase it. I got beer cheese.

and soup.

put together like so:

split pea soup, beef mushroom burgundy pie.

There was a coupon on living social. Free appetizer. Hello, cajun fries.

Not like cajun tater tots from McMeneneemein's. No prominence of black pepper. But still good! Especially dipped in beer cheese. Cheesy beer sauce gravy. It was really thick, so I consider it more of a gravy.

Also! They have something wonderful! Can you guess what it is? (hint, see previous rant post).

............

Not schweppes brand, but orange san pellegrino!! YUM! Also featured in my meal, lazy boy IPA. Gotta be local, right? No.

Dear Schwepps

Please sell Limon and Arancia here in the states. I do not want your "slim line" and I do not want your bitter lemon. Maybe in a blue moon I will settle for the ginger ale.
