Experimental indulgence - at the store

During my indulgent phase cooking at home, I decided to try some other things found at the grocery store.

This first one is not new, but always a good classic. IPA with those spicy peanuts!

At Metropolitan Market in lower Queen Anne I found this: Pork, chicken AND truffle??!!!

They also had rosemary flat bread:

Out of the package:

There's also rosemary Wasa crackers that aren't thick like the regular fiber ones!!!

Wasa- gourmet.

Also at Metropolitan Market they have truffle cheese with HUGE chunks of real truffles in them! I had to get myself a tiny wedge. This was our appetizer to no-red-meat food club. So good with the nebbiolo.

My friend also brought these little mint cookies over for no-red-meat food club.

Kind of like thin mints, but not thin and super crispy!

elk jerky + wasabi peas = DELICIOUS

Bailey's dad makes awesome jerky. It's the thicker kind like slim jim or o boy oberto. Boss had wasabi peas on her desk when I was eating jerky.... so... I combined. Reasons why it's good:
- mixed textures (like chips in your sandwich). chewy jerky + crunchy peas.
- spicy + meat.
- smokey + corn...y. I know it's peas, but you know what I'm saying.

Also! Mac & cheese with kale is my new favorite. I can't ever finish the whole batch in one sitting, so I don't like to use vegetables that can't reheat well (like the standard m&c combo go-to, brocoli). Lately my goal has been to add more kale each time, and use less noodle so it's more cheesy veggies rather than carb overload and guilted food coma. Also peas are just fun always and meat. Chicken absorbs good flavor and reheats decently.

The universe answered my request for banana cream pie in 2 days. What should I ask for next?!

Dad's in town!

After birthday BBQ (pulled pork sliders, hamburgers, hot dogs, and home made ice cream!!) Dad came into town. I made snickerdoodle cupcakes (recipe Martha Stewart) to go with the ice cream.

We went to Cutters and got coconut curry clams. More like I coerced him into trying it.

Today we're going to dim sum with some friends. It'll be a new place, so we'll see if it's the next go-to. Breakfast was a bloody mary courtesy of Smashley. I think my dad is lost. He was supposed to pick me up by now. I need to remember to buy more Vietnamese Cinnamon from World Spice at Pike's Place. Also, tis the season to scope out pickled asparagus at Pike's. The grocery store kind just doesn't cut it. for bloody mary's.

Pike's place booty:

After dim sum we're going to the Tacoma Art Museum to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit. Then I'm pretty sure we're destined to go to the Diamond Knot Brewery. Raw steak on a 500 degree marble slab. I might want Leatherface's Revenge Quesadilla instead though. so good.
